warnmcr: 25 pieces down... 25 to go!

Word of Warning... week 2 of silly season

Having tempted fate with 'mobility scooter on M62' quips last week, which nearly came to fruition when I got locked in my car park on the morning of 'Poolside Emergency... I'm going to refrain from any such reckless suggestion!

Week 2 of WoW's silly season is upon us and with it
Turn 2013 at Contact, tonight, Fri 19 and tomorrow Sat 20 April.  15 pieces of new dance across and, at only £10/6 for a 2 night pass, it's a steal!

Elsewhere West Yorkshire Playhouse's Transform Festival (16-27 April) continues til 27 April - look out for The Johnny Eck and Dave Toole Show(23-27th) and there's more dance at Blackpool Grand with David Hughes' The Red Room on Sun 21 April.

Next week in Manchester sees
  Angela Clerkin with Improbable Theatre - The Bear at the Royal Exchange Studio (Thu 25-Sat 27 April) and, of course, Word of Warning is back again, this time at Z-arts, with the very marvellous Stuart Silver + Tam Hinton on Fri 26 April.  Also worth checking out is the Whitworth's Saturday Supplement on Sat 27 April.

Further afield, If Only! are occupying Gallery 3 as part of Archiving the Bluecoat on Mon 22 April from 10.30am;
Pigeon Theatre's The Smell of Envy is at Capstone Theatre, Liverpool on Wed 24 April plus the intriguing Tatty Del Are Making it Work at the Lantern Theatre, Sheffield, the same night.

Looking further ahead, Daniel Bye's The Price of Everything is at Theatre in the Mill, Bradford; Idle Motion's That Is All You Need To Know is at the Lowry and the Jane Packman Company's A Thousand Shards of Glass is at Slung Low's HUB. And, surprise, surprise,  Word of Warning is back again - this time at Contact with Works Ahead on 2/3 May!

So, hoping to see you in the very near future for some dancerly twirling, some dark musings on perspective or some moving and talking (not necessarily both at once!).  Until them, I'm off to order excess quantities of dancer-treats from a well-known Hulme supermarket.

warnmcr: splashing into 'Poolside and Turning into Contact...

Word of Warning... every week for the next five weeks...

And so, Word of Warning's silly season has actually arrived... the first of our weekly events for the, 'Poolside Emergency, splashes down on Sat 13 April, 12-5pm FREE at the Bluecoat, Liverpool with way too many artists and strange goings-on to list!  (NB full schedule now online)

If our antics aren't enough for you this weekend, then there's still
Fuel/Will Adamsdale's The Victorian in the Wall at the Royal Exchange Studio Fri 12 + Sat 13 April and Levantes Dance Theatre's Two Peas Without a Pod at Theatre in the Mill, Bradford on Fri 12 April.

Next week sees West Yorkshire Playhouse's Transform Festival (16-27 April); and Word of Warning returns to Manchester with our next offering - the spectacularly twirly 15 pieces of dance making up Turn 2013 at Contact (Fri 19 + Sat 20 April)... and there's more dance at Blackpool Grand with David Hughes' The Red Room
on Sun 21 April.

The following week sees Pigeon Theatre's The Smell of Envy at Capstone Theatre, Liverpool on Wed 24 April and I'm intrigued by Tatty Del Are Making it Work at the Lantern Theatre, Sheffield, the same night. The Royal Exchange Studio has a collaboration by Angela Clerkin with Improbable Theatre - The Bear
(Thu 25-Sat 27 April) and, guess what, Word of Warning is back again, this time at Z-arts, and this time in more verbally salacious mode with a double bill of Stuart Silver + Tam Hinton on Fri 26 April.

On the installation front, also look out for Quarantine's The Soldier’s Song installation at Harris Museum & Art Gallery , Preston, 12-20 April and Accrington Market Hall, 23rd – 1 May.

My mobility scooter and I are gearing up for the long trek to Liverpool... the M62 won't know what's hit it!

warnmcr: it's summer... allegedly...!

Word of Warning...

While programming puts me in a perpetual state of season confusion... always thinking a season ahead, the weather seems to be putting the kibosh on any sense of where we are in the year - but yes - welcome to British Summertime and to a whole new season of stuff to see and do!  Expect an awful lot of plugs for Word of Warning programme - not just because I'm partisan, but because we are absurdly busy from here til June.

A couple of things to keep you busy tonight (Fri 5 April): LEAP's Pub Culture at the Lord Ashton pub in Lancaster and Studio Salford's Embryo
at the King's Arms, Salford.

Next week is a bit eclectic: for something a bit on the circus side, there's Upswing's What Happens in the Winter at the Lowry on Mon 8 April; on the storytelling side: Tales of Whatever at the Castle Manchester;
on the poetry side: Chanje Kunda's Amsterdam (wip) both on Wed 10 April;  on the theatre side: Fuel/Will Adamsdale's The Victorian in the Wall at the Royal Exchange Studio Fri 12 + Sat 13 April.  And on the fantastically bonkers dance side, there's Levantes Dance Theatre's Two Peas Without a Pod at Theatre in the Mill, Bradford on Fri 12 April.

For all round live art eclecticism under one roof, there's of course Word of Warning's own 'Poolside Emergency on Sat 13 April at the Bluecoat, Liverpool.  Emergency's scouse sibling, it offers a FREE day-long splash of some 25 pieces all over the building.

Looking to the following week, and keeping to the eclectic theme, look out for West Yorkshire Playhouse's Transform Festival (16-27 April); and our very own Turn 2013 at Contact (19+20 April)... that's another 15 pieces - this time dance in all its manifestations... I did say we were busy!

I'm off and try and unpick which event is which,  before I start expecting live artists to perform grand jetés (ouch!) or dancers to imbibe noxious liquids (eww!).

warnmcr: when you've finished the chocolate... there's a whole new season ahead!!

Word of Warning...
And so the gentle decline towards the chocolate-gorging break is upon us and consequently not enormous amounts to report.  Reminders, however that NVA's Speed of Light  - a mass, LED clad stream of runners takes over Salford Quays (tonight Fri 22 + Sat 23) and it's the last couple of days to catch Chester Performs' Rogues Galleries  (til Sun 24) and, of course don't forget to join Word of Warning at Kraak on Thu 28 March for a (free) evening with the Volkov Commanders'Panopolis.

Things to watch out for just after Easter are LEAP's Pub Culture in Lancaster on Fri 5 April, andStudio Salford's Embryo at the King's Arms, Salford the same night.

WoW is going to take a mini-break and will be back on Fri 5th April - but we thought we'd just take advantage of a quiet week to give you some bank holiday reading by announcing the next half of our season.  Despite the forecasts of hail, pestilence and plagues of frogs, it's the season we are laughingly calling Spring/Summer and is now online (look out for shiny copper print hitting the racks after Easter). It makes the programme just gone look slack - with 'Poolside Emergency,Turn 2013 and Works Ahead, plus shows from Stuart Silver | Tam Hintonimitating the dog,Michael Pinchbeck | Sheila GhelaniAndy Field and Jenna Watt... and breathe..!

I'm off to gear up for that little lot - at last count it was over 55 individual performances and that's a lot of artists to talk to!  Hope to see you at Volkov Commanders for a bit of a decompress!

best.
