warnmcr: don't be a bystander!

Word of Warning...

Reassuring to see Manchester's summer back to normal and with it, hopefully an incentive to be inside soaking-up the final rays of the Spring/Summer season, to which end, a quick reminder that WoW is back at Contact with Andy Field's Zilla! which you can still see tonight Fri 14 June (nb. we strongly recommend you book for both parts 1+ 2!)

The weekend brings Tam Hintons The Package at the Lowry on Sat 15 + Sun 16 and over in Leeds, Jaye Kearney's One is at the Carriageworks tonight, Fri 14th.

Next week sees Word of Warning's final show of the season - a Fringe First-winning call to action in the face of urban violence: Jenna Watt's Flâneurs at Contact on Thu 20 June.
And there's a Mother's Ruin, also at Contact on Fri 21 June.

Coming up over the next few weeks, the new game from our stablemates The Larks: Know Your Place is at the People's History Museum on Sat 29 June and please don't miss the new show from  Quarantine: The Dyas Sisters which premiers at Contact 3-5 July.

There's a flurry of activity mid July: Contact stays busy with Leo Kay/Unfinished Business's Only Wolves and Lions 9-11 July at a secret location... and PGB's work in progress on 12 July. Daniel Bye's The Price of Everything is at the Lowry on 13 July. Over in Sheffield on 20/21 July there's the Elevator Platform as part of Tramlines.

Then of course there's the small matter of Manchester International Festival which opens on 4 July.  I'm planning on seeing the Robert Wilson Old Woman, Nikhil Chopra at the Whitworth and am intrigued to check out the free work at the Mayfield Depot (an extraordinarily dilapidated site that I managed to get a tour of some 15 years ago). If anyone else has any hot tips, please let me know and I'll pass them on!

Finally, as Word of Warning goes a bit summer-sporadic, I just want to return to Jenna Watt's theme of bystanders, with a quick exhortation that, in the current climate, there's a real need  to get active and vocal about the value of the arts, to which end Arts Council England has produced a new video that is worth checking out and passing on.

The next WoW will probably be in a couple of weeks, so if anyone wants to offer MIF tips, Edinburgh tips or anything else we should be spreading the word about, please let me know.

Meanwhile I'm off to play with Zilla-lego... err, I mean, to do my annual reporting!

best
