warnmcr: miflarelict - a festival frenzy...

So, with the dawning and dusking of NPO day this week, hÅb, and with it Word of Warning, is very grateful and relieved to remain part of the Arts Council England National Portfolio.  On the downside, that means you can look forward to another four years of my musings – on which score...

With MIF and Derelict now underway and Flare waiting in the wings, it's festivals a-go-go. This weekend don't miss Derelict Summers in Preston (29 Jun - 2 Jul): the focal day is tomorrow, Sat 1 Jul with plenty of free city centre activity including Hofesh Schechter, Carboot Disco Bingo, plus Jamie Wood at the Media Factory; or, of course, take your pick of the plentiful MIF offerings! Contact also has Sophie Willan's Branded (until Sat 1 Jul); while over in Liverpool, Sat 1 Jul also sees Siobhan Davies Dance's material / rearranged / to / be at the Bluecoat.

Next week (w/c 3 Jul) festival frenzy becomes almost overwhelming: at MIF check out Yael Bartana's What If Women Ruled The World (5-8 Jul); Returning to Reims (5-14 Jul); Available Light (6-8 Jul) and Susan Hefuna's ToGather (performance Sun 9 Jul).  In more directly WoW-like mode, there's FLARE17 (4-8 Jul), take your pick from the selection of new European work.
For a really full-on evening-out, join Word of Warning at HOME at 6.30pm on Wed 5 Jul for the 'glittering' première of Richard DeDomenici's 24 Hour Party People: Redux at HOME, then keep going with FLARE's Grand Applause + Beauty and the Beast!

The following week (w/c 10 Jul) beyond festival world, there's the intriguingly titled Joanna Tremaco's Women Who Wank on Wed 12 +Thu 13 Jul at the Wonder Inn; while up in Preston Tin Can People's The Katie + Pip Project is at Derelict Summers on Sat 15 Jul. Meanwhile the MIF colossus marches onwards towards its climax: jumping out at me is the Boris Charmatz 1000 Gestures at the Mayfield Depot (Thu 13-Fri 15 Jul) and the concluding Phil Collins's Ceremony on Sun 16 Jul.

Hoping to see you all on the red carpet next Wed (5 Jul) for Word of Warning's season closer, Richard DeDomenici's 24 Hour Party People: Redux!

best
