Word of Warning

With slight trepidation after last week's multiple technology gremlins, here goes with this week's Word of Warning!

Very last call to join me at home, for the final weekend of Domestic this Sat 16 and Sun 17 Nov at Cooper House.  There are still spaces left for the very charming Greg Wohead's I like the way you wear your hair and you can team that with a pair of individual experiences: Jo Bannon's Exposure and Small Acts Shower Scenes plus Alex Bradley + Scott Smith's Field Test in Garageland is ongoing. J. Fergus Evans's My heart is hitch-hiking down Peach Tree Street has literally one or two available tickets on Sunday. We strongly advise booking online before the end of today, though you can sign up for any remaining spaces and returns in person on the day(s) at our lovely garage box office. For ticket enquiries on the day call 0758 129 9439.

Beyond my tower block domain life goes on, and in Liverpool Two Destination Language + Natasha Davis are at The Capstone, Liverpool Hope University tonight Fri 15th; and West Yorkshire Playhouse's Furnace is on Fri 15 and Sat 16 Nov.

Saturday 16th is generally busy - in Liverpool, Affront is at Homotopia and House of Suarez:Vogue-Deco at the Bluecoat; whilst in Yorkshire Stan's Cafe's The Anatomy of Melancholy is at Theatre in the Mill, Bradford, and closer to home Kieran Hurley's Beats is at Contact.

Next week, (w/c 18 Nov) the lavishly eccentric Levantes Dance Theatre's Two Peas Without A Pod is at the Rose Theatre, Edgehill University on Mon 18 Nov;  Stan's Cafe's The Anatomy of Melancholy is at Live at LICA, Tue 19 + Wed 20 Nov, Lancaster; and Spectacle is at the Media Factory, Preston on Fri 22 Nov.
Closer to home PGB's They Never Let Me Play is at Contact on Fri 22 and Sat 23 Nov.

The following week (w/c 25 Nov) sees Laila Diallo at Live at LICA; Third Angel in a work in progress at Theatre in the Mill, Bradford and our stablemates The Larks gaming at Contact.  Word of Warning springs back into life for its final outing of the season with Stacy Makishi's The Falsettos at Z-arts.  Combine that with Bryony Kimmings at Contact on the Saturday with a bargain double-ticket (£15/8).

It's all very well getting 1/4 ton of potatoes onto the 8th floor and worth it for the hot coals effect but figuring out getting them out again - that's another matter.  I'm off back to my glamorous life!

Word of Warning...

Welcome to November, dark nights, loud bangs, bright flashes, and when, with keys newly in my hot little hand, we look forward to moving into the Domestic flats... I see a weekend of household chores ahead!

Tonight, meanwhile, Forced Entertainment's All Tomorrow's Parties continues at Contact followed by a rehearsed reading of And Night Follows Day on the afternoon of Sat 2 Nov. 

Next week (w/c 4 Nov) Axis Arts Centre is busy with GETINTHEBACKOFTHEVAN's Number 1, the Plaza on Tues 5 Nov and Florence Peake's Make on Thurs 7 Nov, while Company Chameleon's double bill Eden + The Pictures We Make is at Live at LICA, Lancaster on Weds 6th.

Over in Liverpool, worth checking out at Homotopia are: Joseph Mercier's Of Saints and Go-go Boys (Wed 6); Dickie Beau's  Lost in Trans (Wed 6 + Thu 7) Rosana Cade's Walking Holding, a Triple Dance Bill and David Hoyle (all on Sat 9 Nov).   Also in Liverpool, a new space to us,  the Lantern, has Nostalgia>>2012 on Tues 7 Nov followed, on Wed 8 Nov by Lena Simic's 1994 (a hÅb/WoW commission). 

MUCH closer to home, in Manchester, Domestic kicks off at Cooper House (M15 6DX) on Fri 8th + Sat 9 Nov with three pieces: Alex Bradley + Scott Smith's Field Test in Garageland (we're only saying by appointment so we know to let you in - you can just ring the box office phone on arrival too!), Small Acts Shower Scenes (yes you get to take a shower, but really, honestly there's NO ONE watching  and it's a really gentle experience - I'm a wuss and I've done it) and the, the vacuum cleaner's Mental (unfortunately already sold out).

Domestic continues the following week with Leentje Van de Cruys's Kitsch'n Sink (Thu 14 + Fri 15 Nov), then our big weekend of Sat 16 + Sun 17 Nov sees a pairing of J. Fergus Evans's My heart is hitch-hiking down Peach Tree Street and Greg Wohead's I like the way you wear your hair plus Jo Bannon's Exposure (with Field Test and Shower Scenes continuing).

Elsewhere, the week of 11 Nov continues to be busy round the region, with Kieran Hurley's Beats at Contct; Sleepwalk Collective at Axis, Crewe; Every House Has Its Door at Live at LICA; Two Destination Language + Natasha Davis at The Capstone, Liverpool Hope; Affront at Homotopia; Vogue-Deco at the Bluecoat; Stan's Cafe at Theatre in the Mill, Bradford.

I'm off to clean a flat, or three (such a glamorous life) and look forward to welcoming you home...

Word of Warning...

I seem to be increasingly writing these through the power of time-travel... or maybe I've finally succeeded in cloning myself (be afraid)... as I'm presently actually carrying out interviews with a lovely group of possible interns!

Next week (w/c 28 Oct) seems quite calm - the big event being the arrival of Forced Entertainment's All Tomorrow's Parties (Wed 30- Sat 2 Nov) at Contact; Reckless Sleepers' String Section is at Axis, Crewe on Tues 29 Oct and Mary Pearson's Failure is at the Unity, Liverpool on Wed 30 Oct.

The following week (w/c 4 Nov) gets crazy again with GETINTHEBACKOFTHEVAN and Florence Peake at Axis; Homotopia in full swing in Liverpool, with performances by Joseph Mercier, Rosana Cade, David Hoyle and Dickie Beau; Lena Simic also in Liverpool at the Lantern;  and Company Chameleon at Live at LICA.

We meanwhile enter the Domestic fray on Friday 8th,  and the real meaning of taking work home has started to sink in! We've sold over 100 tickets and whilst the vacuum cleaner's Mental is already sold-out, there are still spaces for all the other shows, the one to ones and the garage installation!

Brought to you by the power of time travel as I'm actually currently in Liverpool at Hope Street Ltd's On The Verge, a sited festival featuring emerging artists working in a variety spaces all over Liverpool city centre (running until this Sunday 20 October). Also in Liverpool,  Philip Jeck & Rebecca Sharp are at the Bluecoat, Liverpool tonight, Fri 18th.

In the Manchester environs next week, Tim Crouch's I, Malvolio comes to Z-arts on Tues 22 Oct (daytime);  Michael Clark visits the Lowry on Weds 23 Oct, and the Assemble DIY performance platform event is at Sand Bar, Grosvenor St, Manchester on Thurs 24 Oct.

Further afield,  Zoo Indigo's Doublebill is at Live at LICA, Lancaster on Tues 22 Oct; La Petite Morte's No Big Deal (two works by Ellen Turner and George Adams) at Edgehill on Thurs 24th; and New Art Club's Feel About Your Body is at Axis, Crewe also on Thurs 24th.

The following week (w/c 28 Oct) sees Forced Entertainment land at Contact; Reckless Sleepers at Axis Crewe, Mary Pearson at the Unity, Liverpool.

Back to my time-travelling ways in Liverpool and wondering how I'll get to Leeds by this evening.

Word of Warning...

A big thanks to everyone who joined us for last Saturday's Emergency - we had a great time and we hope you did too.  At the risk of cheese-factor, the warmth and enthusiasm of the audience really makes an event and the Emergency audiences gets 5 stars!

On to regular business, we're at it again, tonight Fri 11 and tomorrow Sat 12 October, this time at (and with) Contact for the full-on blast that is RashDash's Ugly Sisters.

Ailis Ni Rian's A Shadow on Summer is ongoing at The Waterside, Sale (10-12 Oct), as is Hannah Silva's The Disappearance of Sadie Jones at the Lowry; and the annual Manchester Weekender (10-13 Oct) has kicked off all over the city.

Next week Manchester feels a bit quieter, but there's Caroline Horton + Company's Mess
at Contact on Wed 16 + Thu 17 Oct, and on Sat 19th, Z-arts has The Icebook (nb keep scrolling down!)

Further afield, Live at LICA, Lancaster is seriously busy with Forced Entertainment's Tomorrow's Parties  on Tue 15 + Wed 16 (also at Contact at the end of the month) and Tim Crouch & A Smith on Thu 17, followed by Tim Crouch's I, Malvolio (18+19th daytime - also coming to Z-arts and elsewhere).

Retina Dance's Corporalis is at Edgehill on Thu 17th; young Leeds company The Skeleton Project's Fall is at Stage@Leeds (17-19 Oct) and Philip Jeck & Rebecca Sharp are at the Bluecoat, Liverpool on Fri 18th.

The week after (w/c 21 Oct) things to look out for are  Zoo Indigo at Live at LICA; then it gets a bit dancestastic - with Michael Clark at the Lowry; La Petite Morte at Edgehill; and New Art Club at Axis, Crewe.

After a long day of meetings ahead, I'm looking forward to letting off some steam at RashDash's Ugly Sisters - hoping you can join us!

Word of Warning...

Here at Word of Warning we are gearing up for the full onslaught of Emergency, tomorrow Sat 5 Oct - random acts of the week include suspending 100 red apples and creating a chiffon sea...

The full schedules are now online, with the usual 'subject to change' caveat.  Kicking off from midday at BLANKSPACE there are series of durational and one to one performances in a more meditative vein, before moving across to Z-arts for a more 'show' based schedule, with durationals starting at 3pm and shows from 4pm - as ever all free.

Elsewhere,  tonight Fri 4 (and tomorrow Sat 5 Oct), The Lowry has Holly Bodmer + Dot Howard's sited Would Be Nice Though and tonight Leeds has its annual Light Night and Liverpool FuturePrimed as part of AND Festival.  Regrettably we can't make it to the other big event of the weekend - yet further afield it's also Fierce Festival in Birmingham this weekend (4-6 Oct)

Next week in Manchester there's the regular Tales of Whatever at the Castle on Wed 9.  From Thu 10 to Sat 12 Oct Ailis Ni Rian's A Shadow on Summer is at The Waterside, Sale (10-12 Oct) and the Lowry has Hannah Silva's The Disappearance of Sadie Jones (which is also at the Lantern, Liverpool on 8+9 Oct) and the ever-provocative Mark Thomas's 100 Acts of Minor Dissent is at Dancehouse on 9+10 Oct.

Word of Warning is back in action co-promoting the rumbustious RashDash's Ugly Sisters at Contact on Fri 11 and Sat 12 Oct - don't miss it, we've been chasing this one since this time last year!

The week rounds off with the annual Manchester Weekender (10-13 Oct) a chance for the city to show off what's best about its art scene!

Further afield - on Mon 7th, Lancaster is the place to be with two exhibitions at Live at LICA  (Raisin + Willow's Sea Breeze, An Archive, and the Transformed doublebill) and the really exciting pairing at the Duke's -  No Big Deal: La Petite Mort double bill featuring George Adams + Ellen Turner (winner of the Turn Prize 2013).Elsewhere, Thursday 10 Oct is a popular night with Melanie Wilson's Landscape II at Axis, Crewe and MDI presents Northern Dances at the Capstone, Liverpool.

Word of Warning...

It's time to stop pretending it's summer and face the full frontal assault of the autumn season.  Things really get going from next week with a flurry of activity across the region....

Of course, here at Word of Warning, our focus is firmly on Emergency, on Sat 5 Oct at BLANKSPACE and Z-arts.  Full artist details are now only and we will release the schedule next week. It's a more chilled out affair than some years, but still promises 28 pieces all for free - don't miss commissions from Becky Bowley and Mike Chavez-Dawson, and the return of old friends like Drunken Chorus.

Meanwhile, next week, over at Edgehill there's still the 12 Degrees North Dance Company's Triple Bill on Mon 30 Sept and Mary Pearson's Failure on Thu 3 Oct. Axis Arts Centre in Crewe gets going with Jean Abreu's Blood also on Thu 3 Oct.  Leeds has its annual Light Night on Fri 4 Oct; and in Liverpool, ever inventive, The Kazimier has an intriguing art/club crossover - FuturePrimed (also on Fri 4 Oct).

Closer to home, on Fri 4 and Sat 5 Oct, The Lowry has Holly Bodmer + Dot Howard's sited Would Be Nice Though. Then of course there's Emergency..!

The following week, on Monday 7 October, Lancaster gets busy when Live at LICA opens two performance related exhibitions - Raisin + Willow's Sea Breeze, An Archive, and the Transformed doublebill with works by Louise Ann Wilson and Wrights & Sites/Katie Etheridge and the Duke's also has the fantastically off the wall  No Big Deal: La Petite Mort double bill featuring George Adams + Ellen Turner (winner of the Turn Prize 2013).

The week of 7 Oct continues in Manchester with the regular Tales of Whatever and Ailis Ni Rian's A Shadow on Summer at The Waterside, Sale and the Lowry has Hannah Silva's The Disappearance of Sadie Jones (also at the Lantern, Liverpool).

Not that we're biased or anything but the highlight of the week has to be the marvellously warped RashDash's Ugly Sisters at Contact.

Further afield, Melanie Wilson's Landscape II is at Axis, Crewe and MDI presents Northern Dances at the Capstone, Liverpool.

I'm off to get on with the annual juggling act that is Emergency - this year the shopping list seems to include scaffolding, ropelight and 360 apples... and that's before we start feeding the artists!

Word of Warning...

All the signs of Autumn are truly here, forget the turning leaves, the fresher welcoming committees have taken up residence in the supermarkets - so this week's word of warning is to order your food online as the shelves will soon be bare...

Back on topic, less mainstream seasons don't really kick in in earnest for a couple of weeks so there's not a lot new to report.  Reminders that Chris Thorpe's There May Have Been An Incident (4-21 Sept) is ongoing at the Royal Exchange, as is Daniel Kitson's Tree (13-21 Sept) and Chris Goode's Monkey Bars (13/14 Sept) at The Lowry and the first Mother's Ruin of the season is at Contact on Fri 20 Sept. 

Leaping Out 2 is at the Dukes, Lancaster tonight, Fri 13 Sept and the Seven Traces Festival is at the University of Lancaster, Fri 13 til  Tue 17 Sept.

A couple of new discoveries:  Tomorrow,Sat 14 Sept, Sometimes We Play's We Can Be Heroes (Work in Progress) is at Bradford's Theatre in the Mill.  A little further ahead, Manchester's Victoria Baths plays host to Audible Silence: A Concert for the Architecture on Thu 26 Sept; a little further afield, Rose Theatre, Edgehill has l i g h t o u c h that same night and 12 Degrees North Dance Company: A Triple Bill on Mon 30 Sept.  And fellow 80's hangovers may be intrigued by Thomas Dolby's The Invisible Lighthouse at Waterside Arts Centre of Fri 27 Sept.

Booking is now largely open for Domestic (8-17 Nov) - Word of Warning's mini-festival in a block of flats featuring  Jo Bannon, Alex Bradley + Scott Smith, J. Fergus Evans, Small Acts, the vacuum cleaner, Leentje Van de cruys and Greg Wohead.   Please bear with us if there are a few booking glitsches, I underestimated the massive amount of work it would be to set up online bookings for so many limited capacity shows and the lovely John has been battling it all week (hence the lateness of today's mail).  For appointments for Alex Bradley + Scott Smith's Field Test in Garageland, or any problems call us on 07581 299 439.   Everything is limited capacity and is already selling fast so do book early.
