warnmcr: a double sense of urgency...

On the eve of October, we at Word of Warning find ourselves poised (dream-on!) for a double outing of all things -ergency, in the shape of both old faithful Em-ergency and shiny new kid Div-ergency! With this full-on explosion of activity please forgive my self-indulgence in this issue - or just skip the next 2 blocks!

From the sensory to the subversive, the emotional to the eccentric: glimpse the heart of Europe; a blinding revelation; gilded scars and a little touch of magic…
First up is the logistical feat that is Emergency 2016 - you'd think that by its 17th outing this would be easy... but no way... 28 works over 11 hours still has huge potential for cataclysmic failure.  So if you want to indulge in the anticipation of schadenfreude - or better still sample the longest running, most varied day of live work going, join us from midday at Z-arts.  See the return of old friends like Simon Bowes (as Ding & sich) and Paul O'Donnell, or meet new faces like Elena Molinaro and Tom Cassani... The programme runs in 4 sessions:
12noon-2pm: dip in + out of ongoing performances, installations + 1-2-1s;
2pm-4pm: join us for a series of short sit-down shows;
4pm-7pm: see new spaces, ongoing performances, installations + 1-2-1s;
7pm-11pm: a final burst of short sit-down shows.

From the earth beneath our feet to the stars in our skies, an evening of emerging works by a group of artists as diverse as their subject matter…
Next comes Divergency on Thu 6 Oct, also at Z-arts  - a unique insight into eight new works in various stages of development, from first sketches to ready-to-go shows:
Installation:     6-8.30pm. FREE: Jamil E-R KeatingChelsea Morgan | Yvonne Shelton
Tabletop Trio: 6pm. £6/3 (very limited capacity): Maya Chowdhry | Afreena Islam | Toni-Dee Paul
Double Bill:      8.30pm. £6/3:  Chanje Kunda | Cheryl Martin

Anyway, if joining us in our double folly doesn't appeal, elsewhere this weekend you can catch Sh!t Theatre's Women's Hour (til 1 Oct) and Jamal Harewood's The Privileged (til 1 Oct) both at HOME; or further afield, Furnace Festival (to 8 Oct) at West Yorkshire Playhouse.

Next week (w/c 3 Oct) is equally busy with Jamie Wood O No! (3-5 Oct) at HOME; and Black Gold Arts Festival at various venues (of which Divergency is a part).   Further afield Vincent Gambini's This is not a magic show is at Axis, Crewe on Tue 4 Oct; and Live Art Bistro, Leeds springs into action with Nicola Hunter's Lost Bodies on Fri 7 Oct, and Panic Lab's Swan Lake II: Dark Waters on Sat 8 Oct.

The following week (w/c 10 Oct) there's Belarus Free Theatre at Contact; and, as part of the ongoing Orbit Festival at HOME you can catch RashDash and Sleepwalk Collective while Waterside, Sale has Mark Thomas.  Beyond Mancunia, Crewe is frenetic with Igor and Moreno, Flexer & Sandiland and Vincent Gambini touring and Live Art Bistro, Leeds has Jamal Gerald.
