As Europe fries, for once I'm almost grateful for Mancunian dankness and downpour... but it is the height of summer and as such things theatrical are going pretty quiet.
This weekend, though, we are at Z-arts tomorrow, Sat 22 Jul, for Haphazard
- an afternoon (12-3) of all ages live art with all sorts, from a giant
spinning jellyfish to a laser show... get there early if you want to
dance with a slinky! Featuring Gemma
Lees, Jana Aizupe & Gi Vasey,Joe Beedles, Julie Burrow, Kitunda
Argyle, Krissi Musiol & Amy Vreeke, Luna Ælflæd, Maddie Wakeling
& Rowan Szulek, Nicola Smith, Orla Collier & Magdalena
Górnikiewicz, Puppetfingers, Thomas Daniel Byrne
The following week (w/c 24 Jul) CYC's Hand Me Down is at Castlefied Viaduct on Thu 27 Jul, while in Leeds Gracefool Collective's Kick-Off takes to the streets 27-29 Jul. In Sheffield Theatre Deli has Ayse Balkos's Canine Teeth on Thu 27 Jul and Wency Lam's Anybody Home? on Fri 28 Jul.
Thereafter things go pretty quiet for August. You could make a trip north eastwards for Stockton International Riverside Festival (3-6 Aug). Or MUCH closer to home, in Moston, Malandra Jacks' Census is at Simpson Memorial Hall on Thu 10 and Fri 11 Aug.
And then there's Edinburgh... Below is my usual longlist spreadsheet. The things I'm thinking of trying to see are Haranczak / Navarre Performance Projects, Ben Target, Max Percy and Friends, Junk Ensemble, Katrine Turner, Frankie Thompson and Liv Ello, BULLYACHE, Adam Scott-Rowley, Raquel Meseguer Zafe / Unchartered Collective, Daniel Kitson, Victor Esses, Mark Thomas, Emily Woof, Lula Mebrahtu, SUPERFAN, Brook Tate.
Online - CLAY have the Chasm Digital projects, possibly until 21 July and GM Fringe has Making It Up and Tigers in the Wisteria throughout July. Edinburgh Fringe also has an online programme which I'm yet to really study though some of the Voices from the South work might be interesting.
Unless something unmissable pops up, this Weekly Warning is going to take a bit of a break until things pick up pace again in September. Keep checking our News + Information page for more pointers to opportunities and show videos online, and @WarnMcr on Twitter for short-notice performances.
