warnmcr: Edinburgh special

Word of Warning...

Welcome to WoW's occasional summer missive... my attempt at a digestible route into Edinburgh!
But first, closer to home, if you're feeling the need for a bit of distraction, the quite remarkable Ennio Marchetto is at Z-arts tonight (9 Aug), the regular Tales of Whatever is at the Castle on Wed 14 Aug and our friends, Gareth Cutter, Tuheen Huda and Sarah Evans are performing in Identity Parade at the Lass O'Gowrie on Sat 24 Aug.

Having spent more than a little time trying to bend time by seeing 30 Edinburgh shows in 36 hours, I thought I'd attempt to put all that to good use and pass it on.  Obviously if you aren't planning on going to Edinburgh feel free to hit delete right now...

If you ARE going - I'd be here all year if I tried to be comprehensive and link to every show worth a look,  so the easiest route in is to use venues and programmes and their own websites as signposts and plan from there.

If you're a seasoned Edinburgh-goer and want my work in progress spreadsheet planner with a long-list of 75+ shows, then it's here!  I've only really looked at the week of 19 August, so please bear that in mind...

As a no-brainer, the easy, one-stop shop is to head out a little way towards Leith and spend a day at Forest Fringe (16-25 August at Out of the Blue Drill Hall, EH6 8RG) with the likes of Action Hero, Invisible Flock, Richard DeDomenici, Ira Brand, Sam Halmareck, Deborah Pearson, Tim Crouch, Brian Lobel and the (hÅb/Word of Warning supported) Michael Pinchbeck's The Middle etc etc!

The Escalator East to Edinburgh  programme crops up at various venues including the Hunt and Darton Cafe. In particular look out for: Buzzcut, Little Bulb Theatre, Victoria Melody, Hannah Jane Walker & Chris Thorpe, Bryony Kimmings, Vicki Weitz, Sh!t Theatre, Chris Dobrowolski, Martin O'Brien.

The British Council Showcase (again various venues) - look out for Billie Cowie, Daniel Bye, imitating the dog, Michael Pinchbeck, Probe, Sylvia Rimat, Third Angel.

Summerhall, catching my eye are Rachel Mars, Made In China, Mamoru Iriguchi, Sugar and Honey Theatre Company

Northern Stage at St Stephens including Daniel Bye, Hannah Nicklin, Third Angel (again different show)

If you're around Zoo and Zoo Southside then worth having a look at are Guilty Party, TheatreState, h2dance, Lost Dog, Gramophones Theatre Company;
or at the Pleasance, Belarus Free Theatre ; and Bill Aitchison at the Counting House Loft (venue 170).

If you're pressed for time or slightly phased by the list above then either head for Forest Fringe and settle in for the day - or for a very rapid selection try Victoria Melody's Major Tom, Mamoru Iriguchi's Projector Conjector, Hannah Nicklin's A Conversation With My Father, Rachel Mars's The Way You Tell Them, Made in China's Gym Party and Third Angel's Cape Wrath

Word of Warning will be back towards the end of August with a preview of our season to come.  And finally, for the artists amongst you, the deadline for the  Emergency call for proposals is next Wednesday 14 August, details at  emergencymcr.org.
