Word of Warning...
Emerging, blinking back into the light, I've come down to earth with a bump to realise that Word of Warning is already in week 2 of a four consecutive week run of shows... and I was wondering why I was dazed and confused!
Generally there's a full-on, and rather confusing couple of weeks of clusters and festivals coming up... which I'll attempt to make sense of!
Still to come this week, tonight (Fri 21) there's Dancing Partners, featuring Company Chameleon at The Lowry; Tempered Body Dance's It Goes Here Now at Z-arts and Penny Dreadful's How To Be Immortal at The Lowry.
At Contact, Flying Solo comes to a close with Jackie Hagan's Some People Have Too Many Legs (Fri 21+ Sat 22 Mar); and, on Saturday, Sophie Willan's The Novice Detective plus drop-in to contribute a story to Quarantine's Between Us We Know Everything.
The Wardrobe Ensemble's 33 is also on Sat 22 Mar at the Carriageworks, Leeds.
The week ahead (w/c 24 Mar), of course, there's only one clear choice, WoW's co-promotion of Two Destination Language's Near Gone on Thu 27 March at Contact! I've not seen the final version but one of my advisors came away absolutely raving about it.
But of course if you really must do something else... over in Bradford at Theatre in the Mill on Wed 26 + Thu 27 March there's Tassos Stevens's Solo 2; or on the dance side, also on Thu 27 March, the third Dance Manchester Homegrown at Z-arts, featuring Joseph Lau and Christopher Owens.
The next couple of weeks see a touch of festival mania:
Here in Manchester there's FutureEverything (27 Mar - 1 Apr) - check out The Hall at RNCM on (29-31 Mar) with a live performance on Sun 30.
In Preston there's the Derelict Live/Talk with LEAP mini-festival on 28+29 Mar - with Sturgeon's Law, Massive Owl and a Forensic Triple Bill including our own Leentje Van de Cruys's Kitsch'n'Sync.
Leeds takes the prize for festival-mania with West Yorkshire Playhouse's Transform 14 (27-30 Mar) including Selina Thompson, Hannah Bruce, Made in China, Third Angel, Hannah Jane Walker + Chris Thorpe and Andy Field + Ira Brand. AND the Ludus Festival 2014 (seemingly 29 Mar - 4 Apr) with intriguing installations and interventions: Aria, Life Boat and White Cane.
The following week (w/c 31 Mar) sees Fabulous Beast and 12 Degrees North at Blackpool Grand; Third Angel out and about in Cheshire ; Made in China at DerelictLive, Preston and The Royal Exchange Studio; Vincent Dance at West Yorkshire Playhouse; Unfinished Business at Theatre in the Mill, Bradford.
And that's without mentioning Word of Warning's own contribution to the week - the return of Turn to Contact on 4+5 April!
See you all amongst the forest of flowers at Two Destination Language's Near Gone
