Word of Warning...
Taking a quick break from application writing (those 'in the npo' will empathise) to look at all the things I can't permit myself to go to!
First up - a quick shout for Yorkshire Dance's Juncture Festival which launched in Leeds last night and I foolishly missed out last week. Curated by Wendy Houstoun, there's loads of work on that brushes at the edges of dance and performance with a particular focus over this weekend (6-8 March). Special picks, for me, are this afternoon's double bill of Grace Surman + Cathy Butterworth | Oliver Bray and next Saturday (15 Mar) with Wendy Houstoun's Stupid Women
Elswhere, still to come this week is Junk Ensemble's The Falling Song on Sat 8 March at Contact and Hannah Nicklin's Songs for Breaking Britain is at The HUB, Leeds on Sat 8 March.
Next week (w/c 10 March) things really kick off in Manchester with Contact's Flying Solo including Word of Warning's co-promotions of Sylvia Rimat's If You Decide To Stay and Kindle Theatre's A Journey Around My Skull on Wed 12 March; Rachel Mars's The Way You Tell Them on Thu 13 Mar plus the return of Jo Bannon's Exposure (one on one both Wed + Thu). Also look out for our Domestic friend, Greg Wohead's The Ted Bundy Project on Fri 15 Mar plus the intrguing Kaleider's You With Me (12-15 Mar).
Elsewhere, in Manchester on Wed 12 is the regular Tales of Whatever at Gulliver's Ballroom and further afield have a look at mapdance's Mixed Bill on Tue 11 at Axis, Crewe and Ihirley MacNamara's Let Me Stay (12+13 Mar) at the Bluecoat.
The following week is big on dance - with Henry McGrath at Axis; Dancing Partners at Blackpool Grand and The Lowry; Tempered Body Dance at Z-arts or more theatrically, Impulse Collective and The Wardrobe Ensemble at Carriageworks Leeds. Contact's Flying Solo continues til Sat 22 Mar - watch out for Jackie Hagan - and of course the highlight of this week will be Word of Warning's and Contact welcoming of Victoria Melody and her show-stealing Major Tom.
So I'm back to the closeted, monk-like world of writing - hoping you all enjoy the shows - not jealous at all!
best
