The
icy fingers of January are firmly gripped around us now, though
mercifully with a 13 degree leap in internal temperature the dress code
in the WoW office has now moved from sheepskin and woolly knits to
Hawaiian shirts and flip-flops... (do they even do those in black?)
In the awakening world of the performative, this weekend you can catch Sohail Khan's O.P.L.A at Live Art Bistro in Leeds (tonight Fri 13 Jan). The main event in parts Mancunian is the beginning of HOME's PUSH Festival (14-28 Jan - download schedule here). Performances kick off on Sun 15 Jan with Louise Wallwein's The Island, The Sea, The Volunteer, The Refugee (repeated 18,19 +21 Jan).
Next week (w/c 16 Jan) PUSH continues with Powder Keg's Morale Is High (Since We Gave Up Hope) (16-18 Jan); From The Mill Theatre's I'm Standing Next To You (Mon 16 + Tue 17 Jan) and Mighty Heart's Now Is The Moment We Learn Hope on Sat 21 + Sun 22 Jan. Meanwhile, possibly in more directly WoW style, Project O's O is at the Royal Exchange on Sat 21 Jan.
Elsewhere, in Liverpool at the Brink, Psychology Fringe on Wed 18 Jan sees an evening featuring Josh Coates, Henry Maybury and Ridiculusmus; while for the theatrically-minded Bowie fan, From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads is at The Met, Bury 0n Thu 19 Jan and at Slung Low's HUB, Leeds on Sun 22 Jan.
The following week (w/c 23 Jan) sees the conclusion of PUSH with Debs Gatenby and Cheryl Martin; and over in Leeds Matt Allen is at Live Art Bistro, Leeds.
The place to be however (with no hint of self-promotion) is at the Lowry on Wed 25 Jan for the launch of Word of Warning's Spring Programme with Massive Owl's Castle Rock - it's pay what you decide but do make sure to pre-book your place!
