Today sees me starting the gear-up process for the upcoming Works Ahead 2018 - it's less smell of the greasepaint and more rustle of the kitchen foil as we set about reinforcing the black out... never say I don't treat you to trade secrets..!
This weekend: Rash Dash's Three Sisters is ongoing at the Royal Exchange Theatre (til 19 May); while in Leeds Live Art Bistro has Sh!t Theatre's DollyWould (courtesy of WYP) tonight Fri 11 and tomorrow Sat 12 May, when it is followed by JUICEBOX feat Mykki Blanco + David Hoyle; and Slung Low's HUB has Cheryl Martin's Who Wants To Live Forever on Sun 13 May.
Next week (w/c 14 May) it's all systems go. The aforementioned Works Ahead 2018 takes over STUN Studio at Z-arts on Thu 17 and Fri 18 May with a debugging of the Asperger's mind from Vijay Patel and an anthem to body positivity from Emma Geraghty.
Elsewhere, The Lowry's Week 53 Festival kicks off on Thu 16 May and includes Fat Roland's Seven Inch on Thu 17 + Fri 18 May (also on 24 + 25 May); Night Walks with Teenagers on Fri 18 + Sun 20 May; MADHOUSE: Re-exit (18-25 May); Joseph Toonga + Grace Surman, in a parent and daughter double bill on Sat 19 May; and Swan Lake on Fri 18 + Sat 19 May. Quick tip - if you look a bit lively there may be some Pay What You Decide tickets left...
On Sat 19 May there's also the women only Lone Women In The Not Quite Light-Flashes Of Wilderness happening late night in a Salford car park.
Beyond Mancunia there's Running Dog Theatre's Wanna Dance With Somebody on Tue 15 May at Axis, Crewe; and Christopher Brett Bailey's Suicide Notes at Bradford Theatre in the Mill on Fri 18 May.
The following week (w/c 21 May) Week 53 Festival continues til 28 May, with Dökksparking my interest, while Scottee is at HOME. Further afield, Cheryl Martin is in Liverpool; Pauline Mayers in Bradford; Pink Suits + Sam Kennedy in Leeds; and Barrel Organ in Sheffield.
Really hoping to see you at Works Ahead - please do come and join us and support these fragile early steps for two new works.
And just a final word... for all you eagerly following the riveting EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
