So with the bank holiday looming and seemingly threatening fine weather, the last thing you may want to do is sit in a black box - but if you do...

This weekend: Rash Dash's Three Sisters is at the Royal Exchange Theatre (til 19 May); while Sh!t Theatre's DollyWould is at HOME (until Sat 5 May); or over in Bradford Gameshow's Dancing Bear, Dancing Bear is at Bradford Theatre in the Mill tonight Fri 4 May. And, if you really want a big weekend outing, GIFT Festival is on in Gateshead (Fri 4 - Sun 6 May - though check before you set out as their online box office seems to say everything is sold out).

Next (w/c 7 May) is looking a bit on the quiet side but there's the LAUNCH 2018 graduand platform at Manchester College's Waterside Theatre on Wed 9 May; or Lucy Suggate + Conor Schumacher's OK Future is at the Bluecoat, Liverpool on Thu 10 May.  You can also head to Leeds where Live Art Bistro has Sh!t Theatre's DollyWould (courtesy of WYP) on Fri 11 + Sat 12 May, followed on Saturday by JUICEBOX feat Mykki Blanco + David Hoyle; and Slung Low's HUB has Cheryl Martin's Who Wants To Live Forever on Sun 13 May.

The following week (w/c 14 May) things pick up pace with a vengeance. The Lowry's Week 53 Festival kicks off  with Fat Roland, Night Walks with Teenagers, MADHOUSE: Re-exit; Joseph Toonga + Grace Surman - and Swan Lake.  Further afield there's Running Dog Theatre in Crewe; and Christopher Brett Bailey in Bradford. 
And, without the slightest glimmer of bias, *the* place to be will be with Word of Warning for Works Ahead 2018 in STUN Studio at Z-arts (17+18 May)!

    Terrifyingly we're already on the cusp of May and with it the looming round of elections... while it might not be 'the big one', in this suffra-versary year, it's definitely time to make our voices heard.

    This weekend: in Mancunia, tonight Fri 27 Apr, there's Rachael Young's Nightclubbing at The Lowry; and Xavier Bobés's Things Easily Forgotten at HOME (until Sat 28 Apr); while in Bradford The Believers Are But Brothers is at Theatre in the Mill (also til Sat 28 Apr).

    Next week (w/c 30 Apr) Rash Dash's Three Sisters starts at the Royal Exchange Theatre (3-19 May); while Sh!t Theatre's DollyWould is at HOME (3-5 May).       Maybe it's that one 'summer beer' last night, but today I'm feeling a touch seasonally discombobulated.  The TV is banging on about unprecedented heatwaves everywhere, while I'm looking at a grey Manchester morning and wondering if yesterday was our blink-and-you-miss-it Spring and Summer rolled into one...

      More predictably this weekend you can still catch Natalie Inside Out at The Lowry; and 2Magpies' Last Resort at Waterside Arts, Sale – both tonight Fri 20 Apr.  Further afield, Live Art Bistro, Leeds has Sardoville - For Only An Hour, also tonight Fri 20 Apr; while Bradford Theatre in the Mill has Duncan Speakman's Only Expansion sonic walk on both Fri 20 + Sat 21 Apr.

      Next week (w/c 23 Apr) in Mancunia there's Xavier Bobés's Things Easily Forgotten at HOME (25-28 Apr); and Rachael Young's Nightclubbing at The Lowry on Thu 27 + Fri 28 Apr.           So, as a cold wind re-emerges from the east, if you're headed in that direction, tonight Fri 16 Mar there's Snakebox's Play (Akeim Toussaint Buck + Otis Jones) at Seven Artspace, Leeds and Commonwealth's Radical Acts at Bradford Theatre in the Mill; while in Manchester this weekend and next week you can still catch Contact's outing to Rusholme for Rasa's Handlooms (til 24 Mar).

          Next week (w/c 19 Mar) the LBT in Huddersfield kicks off A Festival - including A Scratch Night on Tue 20 Mar; while in Preston there's Derelict Live with LaPelle's Factory's The Black Cat at the Media Factory on Wed 21 Mar; and Sweetshop Revolution's BeautifuL is at the Capstone Theatre, Liverpool Hope University on Thu 22 Mar. Meanwhile in Leeds, Lone Twin's On Everest is at Stage@Leeds also on Thu 22 Mar.
          Closer to home, for the very young at heart, Simon Mole's Friends For All (directed by our own Peader Kirk) is at Z-arts on Sat 24 Mar.

            warnmcr: a pest in the west...


            So it's March already and while the 'beast from the east' ravages the country, here in the unique Manchester central micro-bubble it's being more of a pest in the west; though it is still functioning as an effective deterrent to actually going out to a show.  Hopefully next week will bring slightly more enticing travelling conditions, as crossing the Pennines seems a bit de rigueur at the moment...

            This weekend in parts Mancunian, you can still catch Company Chameleon 10 at the Lowry tonight, Fri 2 Mar; the Shamshad Khan-penned Horse + Bamboo's Moonwatcher at the Royal Exchange Theatre (Fri 2 + Sat 3 Mar); and the Free For Arts Festival at Plant NOMA on Sat 3 Mar - more artist info here.

            While we might be basking in sunshine, don't be fooled as the icy grip of winter is due to descend again next week... but mercifully the performance world is warming up a bit.
