warnmcr: haphazard day, haphazard content...

A Thursday afternoon Weekly Warning feels a bit wonky, but with Haphazard coming up I thought I'd slip this in before everyone descends into a sugar-induced easter coma! If you're not chocolate-wallowing, this weekend you can still catch Imitating the Dog's Heart of Darkness at the Lowry and Rob Newman's Total Eclipse of Descartes at the Dancehouse, both tonight, Thu 18 Apr; and Amy Voris's Perch at AWOL Studios, at dusk every night in April. Hunt and Darton's Radio Local is also in St Helen's on Sat 20 April.

Next week (w/c 22 April) the pace really picks up. At Z-arts Company of Others' Crackle. Dustis in STUN Studio on Fri 26 April, while on Sat 27 April, we at Word of Warning go into overdrive with Haphazard 2019: a bubbling symphony of a free day out for all ages— clouds of foam, playful shadows, scarecrows with a conscience, a signing musical statue, and the hardest working moth in Tinseltown. Turn up at any time, come and go as you please and expect the unexpected!

Further afield, Lola Maury's Brouhaha is at Theatre in the Mill, Bradford on Wed 24 Apr; while the vacuum cleaner is hosting I Heart Thursdays in St Helen's on Thu 25 Apr.
The big story is over in Leeds for Transform Festival (26 Apr - 4 May). There's a host of international and UK artists so the easiset might be to download the brochure. This first weekend(26-28 April) includes 70/30 Split, Jamal Gerald, Motus + nora chipaumire; while the second week (1- 4 May) includes machina eX, Future Radicals, colectivA ocupaçao (also coming to Manchester), Tianzhuo Chen + Julian Hetzel; with Action Hero running throughout.

The following week (w/c 29 Apr) also sees Company Wayne McGregor at the Lowry, CYC + Homegrown at the Bread Shed.

In other news, our own Works Ahead (16+17 May), featuring Mark Croasdale and Avital Raz is now open for bookings.

Have a lovely, unusually clement, long weekend!

Best

warnmcr: who's fooling who...

So, on this sunny morning, with April Fool's Day round the corner, you could almost believe that we're on a balcony in Europe, comfortably relaxing with a coffee, rather than on the edge and about to jump...

Anyway, this weekend, at The Lowry, you can still catch Luca Silvestrini's Protein's Border Tales (Fri 29 Mar), ZU-UK's Binaural Dinner Date and Mark Morris Dance's Pepperland (both Fri 29 + Sat 30 Mar); while Jinkx Monsoon + Major Scales' The Ginger Snapped is at HOME (until Sat 30 Mar).  Further afield, Imitating the Dog's Redux Residency culminates in a sharing tonight, Fri 29 March at Theatre in the Mill; and Chris Thorpe's Status is at Unity, Liverpool tomorrow Sat 30 Mar. Unfortunately Performing Britain in Leeds has been cancelled (see facebook for info).

Next week (w/c 1 April) is pretty quiet. For something more theatrical, Contact presents Ad Infinitum's No Kids on Mon 1 April; while the Shoots scratch night is on Tue 2 Apr, both at the Lowry. Mark Thomas's Check Up (Our NHS @ 70) is at Waterside Sale, also Tue 2 Apr; while Made in China's Super Duper Close Up is at Theatre in the Mill, Bradford on Fri 5 Apr. For something totally different, Amy Voris's Perch is at AWOL Studios, at dusk every night in April.

April seems to be something of an elongated Easter slowdown: the following week (w/c 8 April) remains quiet with Señor Serrano's Kingdom is at HOME (9-13 Apr); and Mark Thomas in Liverpool (12+13 Apr); thereafter Imitating the Dog are at the Lowry (16-18 Apr).

The week following Easter gets really busy, including Transform Festival and our own Haphazard(details early next week). Unless something crops up, I'm going to take advantage of the lull to put this Weekly Warning on a break, but will be back in time to tell you more about what's to come that last week of April.

warnmcr: the art of procrastination - 50 ways to leave your lover...

At the end of a week of political pandemoniumpostponement and viral petitions, I feel like my own procrastination skills have been given a masterclass...so, with that in mind, to business:

This weekend
Scottee's Fat Blokes continues at HOME (until Sat 23 Mar); while tomorrow, Sat 23 Mar Chris Thorpe's Status is at the Royal Exchange. Elsewhere, Imitating the Dog's Heart of Darkness continues at The Duke's, Lancaster (also until Sat 23 Mar);while in Sheffield,  Theatre Deli has Yes Yes No No's [Insert Slogan Here] on Fri 22 Mar; and Paula Varjack's Cult of K*nzo on Sat 23 Mar.

Next week (w/c 25 Mar) is a busy one... The Lowry has Best of BE Festival on Wed 27 Mar; ZU-UK's Binaural Dinner Date  (both Thu 28 + Fri 29 Mar); Luca Silvestrini's Protein's Border Tales on Fri 29 Mar plus Mark Morris Dance's Pepperland on Fri 29 + Sat 30 Mar. Jinkx Monsoon + Major Scales' The Ginger Snapped is at HOME (28-30 Mar).  Further afield, The Shape of the Pain is at the Arts Centre at Edgehill University on Mon 25 Mar; Imitating the Dog's Redux Residency culminates in a sharing on Fri 29 March at Theatre in the Mill; and Chris Thorpe's Status is at Unity, Liverpool on Sat 30 Mar.  Over in Leeds, meanwhile, Live Art Bistro have their 24 hour Performing Britain marathon, Fri 29 - Sat 30 Mar.  Artists include Gameshow, Hester Chillingworth, Howl Yuan, Katy Dye, Pauilne Mayers,Rachael Clerke, Rachel Gomme, Sh!t Theatre, whatsthebigmistry, Xavier de Sousa, Foxy + Husk among others.

The following week (w/c 1 April) possibly ominously given the date, things seem to be extremely quiet - but Mark Thomas returns to these parts; while Made in China are in Bradford.

I'll stop procrastinating on my current task at hand - attempting to design some truly haphazard print - at least, for once, the thematic matches my skill levels!

warnmcr: it's an ill wind...

As March continues full of ferocious bluster, both meteorological and political, seemingly blowing us into a groundhog loop, maybe the performance world will offer a bit of respite...

This weekend you can still catch Tmesis Theatre's Beyond Belief at The Lowry, tonight Fri 15 Mar; and Rachel Mars's Your Sexts Are Sh*tat the Royal Exchange Theatre, tonight, Fri 15 and tomorrow, Sat 16 Mar. Over in Sheffield you can see Xavier Velastin + Hannah Mook's Me and My Whale at Theatre Deli on Sat 16 + Sun 17 Mar.

Next week (w/c 18 Mar) we, at Word of Warning, are at the Lowry for Katy Dye's Baby Face on Wed 20 Mar; while  Scottee's Fat Blokes returns to HOME (19-23 Mar); and Chris Thorpe's Status is at the Royal Exchange on Sat 23 Mar. Elsewhere, Imitating the Dog's Heart of Darknessis at The Duke's, Lancaster (19-23 Mar); and the Arts Centre at Edgehill University has Vincent Dance's Shut Down on Tue 19 Mar and Dam Van Hunyh's Dep on Thu 21 Mar.  Over in Sheffield,  Theatre Deli is busy with Shey Hargreaves's Sick on Wed 20 Mar, Willy Hudson's Bottom on Thu 21 Mar; Yes Yes No No's [Insert Slogan Here] on Fri 22 Mar; and Paula Varjack's Cult of K*nzo on Sat 23 Mar.

The following week (w/c 25 Mar) Jinkx Monsoon + Major Scales are at HOME; Luca Silvestrini's Protein is at The Lowry; Imitating the Dog are in residence in Bradford; while Chris Thorpe is ubiquitous with The Shape of the Pain at Edgehill; and Status in Liverpool.  Over in Leeds, meanwhile, Live Art Bistro have their 24 hour Brexit wake: Performing Britain.

I'm off to battle with the winds and with a website half in English, half in German in an act of last-minute essential euro-shopping/stockpiling. Hope to see you at Baby Face!

warnmcr: FOMO - Fear Of Miffing Out...

So on this grey March morning, if you're organised enough to plan your show diary 3 months ahead, the MIF tickets go on sale this afternoon and, whilst I can't imagine a Take That- or BTS-style ticket frenzy, you might want to look lively on a couple of things!

This weekend you can still catch Sleepwalk Collective's Kourtney Kardashian and Mark Thomas's Check-up: Our NHS @ 70 - both at HOME tonight Fri 8 and tomorrow Sat 9 Mar. Further afield, the LBT, Huddersfield has Fran Bushe's Ad Libido (Sat 9 Mar) and Keisha Thompson Man On The Moon (Sun 10 Mar).

Next week (w/c 11 Mar) home, The Lowry goes physical Hijinx + Teatro La Ribalta Into The Light  on Wed 13 Mar and Tmesis Theatre's Beyond Belief on Thu 14 + Fri 15 Mar; while the Royal Exchange Theatre has Rachel Mars Your Sexts Are Sh*t (14-16 Mar).

The following week (w/c 18 Mar) Scottee returns to HOME; while Chris Thorpe is at the Royal Exchange. Imitating the Dog are in Lancaster; Vincent Dance and Dam Van Hunyh at Edgehill; and Shey HargreavesWilly Hudson and Yes Yes No No in Sheffield.

I'm off to the Haphazard selection meeting which will inevitably descend into a Twister-style game, ordering tiny coloured post-it notes onto a map of the building - not a pretty image for a Friday afternoon!

WarnMcr: the morning after...

Apparently we're now in meteorological spring - which seems to mean summer has been and gone. On this first of March I'm more than a little bleary and jaded from the 'ravery' of last night's 100th Word of Warning event, so I welcome a quiet weekend, but if you're looking for an outing, you can still catch Wise Children at HOME (til 2 Mar).

Next week (w/c 4 Mar) HOME also has Sleepwalk Collective's Kourtney Kardashian (7-9 March) and Mark Thomas's Check-up: Our NHS @ 70 (Fri 8 + Sat 9 Mar). Further afield, Joan Cléville's Plan B for Utopia is at the Arts Centre at Edgehill University on Tue 5 Mar; Dam Van Huynh's DEP is at Lancaster Arts on Wed 6 Mar; while the LBT, Huddersfield is busy with Katy Dye's Baby Face (Wed 6 Mar - also coming to The Lowry on 20 Mar), Fran Bushe's Ad Libido(Sat 9 Mar) and Keisha Thompson Man On The Moon (Sun 10 Mar).

The following week (w/c 11 Mar) the 'Mancunia vs everywhere else' tables seem to have turned and it all seems to be close to home, with Hijinx + Teatro La Ribalta  and Tmesis at The Lowry; and Rachel Mars at the Royal Exchange.

I'm off to curl up with a set of Haphazard proposals - not sure if that's exactly the panacea needed by my aching brain and body!

warnmcr: mad for it...

As March looms and, with it, fabled mad hares, Word of Warning is gearing up for a raving return to the 90s for its 100th event. Before that on this unseasonably pleasant morning, if you're looking for an outing, then SLAP festival in York (til 23 Feb) might be the place to go - including Beth Cassani + Joseph Mercier (tonight Fri 22 Feb) and Ben Mills,Ali Matthews +Panic Lab (tomorrow, Sat 23 Feb).

Next week (w/c 25 Feb) for something theatrical Wise Children is at HOME (26 Feb - 2 Mar); or further afield, Lancaster Arts has Verveon Mon 25 Feb + Quarantine's Wallflower on Thu 28 Feb. Thursday is generally busy with Dam Van Hunyh's DEP at Axis, Crewe; and Katy Dye's Babyface at Theatre Deli in Sheffield (coming soon to WTF at The Lowry

That said, and with no hint of bias whatsoever, where you'll *really* want to be on on Thu 28 Feb, is in the decayed splendour of Hulme's NIAMOS for Will Dickie's The Rave Space.

The following week(w/c 4 Mar) Sleepwalk Collectiveand Mark Thomasare at HOME; Katy DyeFran Bushe and Keisha Thompsonare in Huddersfield; and Dam Van Huynh is in Lancaster.

Hoping to see you at The Rave Space (small hint: wear layers, it's just a tad chilly... til it gets moving!)

warnmcr: half-hearted...

For those of us not heart-warmed by the commercial glow of Valentine's, I'm afraid we can't look to performance as an escape, as the half-term lull seems to be on us - though you could still catch 1927's The Animals and Children Took to the Streets at HOME (until Sat 16 Feb).

Next week (w/c 18 Feb) enforced wanderlust continues (though less than I thought, due to month gremlins in our google calendar). Tuckshop Dance Theatre's Neverland is at Storyhouse, Chester on Mon 18 Feb; and Forced Entertainment's To Move In Time is at Lancaster Arts on Tue 19 Feb. Extend your range a bit and there's SLAP festival in York (20-23 Feb) including Emma Geraghty, Beth Cassani + Joseph Mercier, Ben Mills, Ali Matthews and Panic Lab.

The following week (w/c 25 Feb) of course it's all about Word of Warning's 100th event Will Dickie's The Rave Space at NIAMOS on Thu 28 Feb! But through a less myopic lens, there's Wise Children at HOME; Verve + Quarantine in Lancaster; Dam Van Hunyh in Crewe; and Katy Dyein Sheffield (also with us at the Lowry in March, available to book from today).

In the meantime enjoy the unseasonal weather (but you'll be a bit chilly if you believe 'national' 19 degree weather forecasts - 'national' only means south!)

Elsewhere, James Wilton's The Storm at Blackpool Grand tonight, Fri 8 Feb.

Next week (w/c 11 Feb) it's all happening on Tuesday and Wednesday and all outside Manchester: Tuckshop Dance Theatre's Neverland is at The Egg Studio, Liverpool on Tue 12 Feb; and Action Transport, Ellesmere Port on Wed 13 Feb. The Arts Centre at Edgehill University has Stuart Waters's Rockbottom on Tue 12 Feb and Greg Wohead's Celebration Florida on Wed 13 Feb; while on Wed 13 Feb you can also pick from: Carroll & Disley's Expanding the Picture II at the Bluecoat, Liverpool; Patrick Campbell's Black Rivers at Axis Crewe; or Lucy Hutson's Bi Curious George and Other Sidekicks at Theatre Deli, Sheffield.

The following week (w/c 18 Feb) Tuckshop Dance is in Chester, Forced Entertainment and Imitating the Dog in Lancaster; and a Lizzie Klotz + Victoria Firth double bill in Huddersfield. A bit beyond our normal range, but possibly worth the extra miles is SLAP festival over in York (20-23 Feb).

In Word of Warning news, we're happy to announce that this year's Works Ahead artists are Mark Croasdale and Avital Raz - more info coming soon... and don't forget you can now book to join us for our 100th event: Will Dickie's The Rave Space at NIAMOS.
