Word of Warning — Weekly Warning

Right now I feel like I've been somewhat rudely awoken from hibernation and thrust into a world of noisy confusion (though that could be something to do with a 2am return from London).  This January flurry of activity is a little discombobulating... but take advantage now as it all calms down markedly come the end of the month. 

This weekend PUSH continues at HOME with Mighty Heart Theatre's Binge tonight, Fri 18 and tomorrow, Sat 19 Jan); Josh Coates's Angels; plus, at Caustic Coastal, Nwando Ebizie's Distorted Constellations (ongoing until 26 Jan).

Next week (w/c 21 Jan) PUSH's final week sees Babel Theatre's The Fall on Mon 21 Jan; a repeat outing for Conor A's Learning To Swim On An Ironing Board on Tue 22 Jan; James Monaghan/Sheep Knuckle's Forest(23-25 Jan),Gareth Cutter's Come Closer on Fri 25 Jan; and, on Sat 26 Jan, Chanje Kunda's Plant Fetishand Javaad Alipoor's Propel.
Leo Burtin's The Futurist Cookbook is at the Lowry on Wed 23 Jan; Jo Fong + Sonia Hughes's Neither Here Nor Thereis at CCFCA on Sat 26 + Sun 27 Jan; Ruth Cockburn's Love Letters From Blackpool is at The Met, Bury on Thu 24 Jan. A lot further afield, Rosana Cade + Ivor McAskill Moot Moot at MAC Birmingham on Wed 23 Jan.

The following week(w/c 28 Jan) things seem to quieten right down again - but you could check out Michael Pinchbeck's new work with New Perspectives Theatre at Axis, Crewe or In The Palm Of My Hand at The Bluecoat, Liverpool.

Here at Word of Warning, we're pleased to unleash our Spring/Summer 2019 season - kicking off on Thu 28 Feb with a special outing to the atmospheric (faded) grandeur of Hulme's NIAMOS for Will Dickie's The Rave Space - which just so happens to be our hundredth event! We're also welcoming Katy Dye and Amy Bell, plus there's another outing for the very bonkers Haphazard; and new Works Ahead commissions to come.

So here we are on the eve of December, the last day, apparently, that we can legitimately eschew all things festive. The seasonal slowdown is now upon us, but there are a handful of things you might still want to catch... 

Today, Fri 30 Nov, Waterside, Sale has Nathaniel Hall's First Time (29 Nov-1 Dec - only Saturday Party tickets available); or in Bradford Irregular Arts's Consent is at Theatre in the Mill, Bradford tonight Fri 30 Nov.

Next week (w/c 3 Dec) Sue MacLaine's Vessel is at the Arts Centre at Edgehill University on Mon 3 Dec; Lancaster Arts has Maya Chowdhry's What's Eating Our Reality on Tue 4 + Wed 5 Dec (almost sold-out) and Gandini Juggling Project's Sigma on Sat 8 Dec. Live Art Bistro, Leeds is busy with two nights of work from the education sector with NSCD's On/Off on Thu 6 Dec and Leeds Beckett MA's Power|Action|Repeat on Fri 7 Dec; followed by a Queer Migrant Takeoveron Sat 8 Dec.

Thereafter, it really is panto-season so the Weekly Warning is going to take a break, but as a forewarning, 2019 kicks off early with HOME's PUSH Festival (11-26 Jan) - keep your eyes open for details.

As the spectacular Stacy brings Word of Warning's Autumn/Winter 2018 to a close, we can feel the icy grip of tinsel closing in around us. So, before everything succumbs to the 'festive' season...

Today, Fri 23 Nov, Proud & Loud's Cells - A Body of Work is at The Whitworth (til Sun 25 Nov). To see the most, I'd suggest getting there this afternoon - here's a teaser of new piece Assessment! Also tonight, Fri 23 Nov, on Merseyside, Tourette's Hero's Not I is at the Bluecoat, and Cheryl Martin's Alaska is at Open Eye Gallery.

The focus this weekend shifts east to Leeds for Compass Festival (till Sun 25 Nov) including Jack Tan's Four Legs Good, French Mottershead's Waterborne (act fast to book the last couple of tickets); Bethany Wells's Warmth; Scottee's Would Like To Meet; Alisa Oleva + Debbie Kent's The Demolition Project and more.  Tomorrow, Sat 24 Nov, seems to be when most things converge - I found page 2 of the brochure really helpful.

While one of our number jets off to warmer honeymoon climes, those remaining at Word of Warning are cuddling up under our duvets for another visit by the marvellous (and sold-out) Ms Makishi.
